ASA Youth Girls [97+] Qualification Round 13th & 14th of April 2013
The first game was against Otter, which the girls lost 14-1, with Alison Tate scoring the only goal. The second game was against Manchester, again a well-trained team and the Caley girls found it difficult keeping up with the pace, losing 10-2, Hannah Edwards scoring both goals.
The third game of the day was against the Welsh Wanderers. The girls showed great grit and determination throughout this game. They were 4-3 up after the first period, Hannah Edwards & Alison Tate taking two goals apiece. In the second period, the girls dug deep and secured the win, with goals from Alison Tate, Megan Little and Emma Coupar. The girls defence was great in this game.
The previous games had taken their toll on the girls, as they didn’t perform to the best of their ability. A combination of tiredness, lack of concentration and a lack of communication from all, contributed to their 8-1 defeat to Crawley. Alison Tate scored the only goal for Caley.
On the Sunday, the first game of the day was against Cheltenham. The girls performed incredibly well, working together as a team which resulted in the 11-2 win. The scorers were Hannah Edwards, Alison Tate and Erin Lawson. There was a marked improvement by all compared with their last game on the Saturday.
The second game of the day was against Liverpool. The girls lost concentration in this game and Liverpool went 5 goals ahead in the first period. The Caley girls then got their heads back in the game producing 2 goals to Liverpool’s 3. The girls defence improved throughout this game, which probably stopped the score being larger. Final score was 8-2 to
Liverpool.
The third and final game of the weekend was against Sheffield and the girls wanted to go out with a bang. All the girls were suffering by the time this game came around, but they dug deep and produced a 5-2 win. Carla Macaloney scoring 3, Erin Reilly 1 and Alison Tate 1. The girls worked together and defended as a team. With this final result, the girls came 5th overall.
Top Goal scorer: Hannah Edwards (10) & Alison Tate (10).

Celtic Tri-nations Scotland's national squads headed to Cardiff, Wales for a true Celtic Tri-nations tournament and the women earned a decisive victory with dominating defensive efforts. The men came close in both matches and had opportunites after play that led to numerous man-ups, but converted a few too little and lost by 2 and 1 respectively to Wales and Ireland. Both junior teams were born 1995 and younger selections, the same as last year. While they were quite far from winning, they had decisively closed the gaps between themselves and the other nations while having squads that were noticeably younger than their rivals, a good sign for the future. Well done to Carla & Jack for playing their part in the tournament.
Scottish Player of Year Awards Congratulation to James Scobie, Portobello, and Louise Fox, Menzieshill Whitehall, who were announced as the winners of the Scottish Senior and Junior Water Polo Players of the Year Awards for 2011-2012 at the Scottish Swimming Awards on Friday.
